Senior PLC Controls Engineer

The Senior Controls Engineer is a highly motivated engineer that works with cross-functional teams to design, program, validate, and support PLC based control solutions to automate process equipment for municipal and industrial water treatment systems.  Leadership is required to assure high quality and drive standardization and efficiency.

The candidate needs to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Four year degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, related engineering field or equivalent experience.
  • Training in RS Logix 5000 software and Factory Talk.
  • 5 -10 years experience in controls design, engineering and troubleshooting, to include PLC programming,  HMI programming, Network & Communication protocols.

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Exposure to a wide variety of process equipment and advanced knowledge of process control concepts.
  • Working knowledge of functional narratives, loop diagrams, PFDs, P&IDs, electric schematics, technical manuals and data
  • Strong experience with ladder logic Programmable Logic Controller(PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming and Data collection
    • RSLogix5000 (Studio) - CompactLogix /ControlLogix/ Flex IO / Point IO
    • Factory Talk SE & ME (PanelView)
    • Historian, VantagePoint
  • Network architectures & Communication protocols
    • DeviceNet, Modbus, Profibus, RS-232/485 and EtherNet/IP

Duties:

  • Collaborate with Sales, Design and Project teams in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, complexity and cost limits.
  • Take a leading role in the design, development and programming of PLC and HMI software products and applications used to control automatic treatment process equipment
    • Develop, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented and reusable. PLC code will interact with SCADA, Telemetry and remote IO.
    • Produce visually simple HMI screens for complex systems while providing sufficient feedback for monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Support Field Service Techs and customers with program changes, phone support, problem-solving and troubleshooting of complex controls and instrumentation issues.
  • Partner with Controls team members to implement controls and instrumentation design process improvements and maintain a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure, organization and standardization.

Designer/Senior Designer

This individual will be a leader within the Design Team and will work with Designers, Drafters and Engineers to deliver designs of water filtration equipment that are efficiently made and highly functioning.

The candidate needs to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 6 years of related experience OR BS in Engineering with 3 years related experience
  • Previous work experience with 3D software

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Superior time management skills
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Ability to solve complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of multiple factors
  • Ability to design with specific regard to
    • Hydraulics
    • Fabrication
  • Good working knowledge of fabrication techniques and water tank construction
  • Proficient in several aspects of design
  • Routinely exercises considerable independent judgement and discretion
  • Experience using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with others on complex and longer-term projects  

Duties:

  • Creation of Proposal, Submittal, Fabrication and Installation drawings to communicate design and project specific requirements to internal and external customers
  • Create hydraulic diagrams from engineer plans, using Tonka Water standard symbols, notations and details
  • Read and interpret Tonka Water drawings and schematics, and engineer plans and specifications
  • Keep other project team members and Design Manager informed as to work progress and workload
  • Follow appropriate Quality Management System (QMS) procedures
  • Lead complex R&D efforts
  • Independently lead complex department initiatives
  • Independently lead teams to accomplish high-level department goals and cross-department goals
  • Mentor and train others on the team and new hires
  • Develop novel R&D ideas

Field Service Technician

Tonka Water is seeking a candidate must have demonstrated experience with mechanical and electrical systems.  System components will include actuated valves, pumps, compressors, electrical motor control and devices.  Candidate skills will include start-up duties, troubleshooting and repair, and electrical wiring.  It is desirable that the candidate have experience in PLC and OIT programming using Allen Bradley PLCs and OITs.  These skills apply to programming, simulation, testing, and start up of PLC systems.  Also required is experience in industrial systems and instrumentation.  Knowledge of water treatment is highly desirable.

The candidate needs to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Five years experience working with mechanical equipment, tools, controls, plumbing, piping or related equipment
  • High School Diploma
  • Physical fitness:  able to lift 50 pounds, able to enter and exit 12x16 manways

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Post secondary coursework in science, mechanics, and electronics desirable
  • Knowledge of water chemistry is helpful
  • Current US passport
  • Appearance/professionalism: present professional appearance and have a high degree of personal and professional integrity
  • Possess a working knowledge of basic hand and power tools such as drill, taps, screwdriver, tape, wrenches, crosscut saw, pliers, etc. 
  • Basic knowledge of iron and manganese removal; flow of water through pipes, valves, flumes
