Hydrogen Sulfide

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) in Drinking Water

Hydrogen Sulfide is a by-product of decaying organic matter, and can be present in groundwater supplies. Sulfate-reducing bacteria oxidize the decaying organic material and reduce sulfates to form hydrogen sulfides.

Hydrogen Sulfide is a dissolved gas that causes unpleasant odor and taste. Although not currently regulated under  the National Safe Drinking Water Act, it is objectionable to consumers, and is detectable at very low concentrations in water supplies.

Tonka Water Hydrogen Sulfide Removal Technologies

Tonka Water offers pilot testing to optimize an existing plant or to assist in the design of a new plant.

Strippers/Degassifiers

A Tonka Water gas stripping tower is the most common and effective approach to removing Hydrogen Sulfide. The off gas from the tower is either vented to the atmosphere or is captured via a caustic soda scrubber for disposal as a waste stream.

Contact us with your water treatment needs

Each plant has different design parameters involving varying water composition. Because each hydrogen sulfide situation is unique, we offer pilot testing to optimize an existing plant or to assist in the design of a new plant. Call your Tonka Water Representative for more information on hydrogen sulfide treatment or any other water treatment needs.
